| Our mission is to
produce theatre of the highest professional standards and to provide
a stage for the exploration of ideas that confront issues of
humanity and community from the Jewish perspective.
Each year we produce 4-6 shows in our mainstage
season. This year
we are proud to present some of the best new plays around! Our
season includes some highly-acclaimed and award winning plays, a
world premiere, and a wonderful comedy direct from the highly
esteemed Humana Festival of New American Plays .
In addition to
our mainstage season, we also produce the Seymour J and Ethel S
Frank Festival of New Plays in Staged Readings each year.
This festival gives us an opportunity to enjoy new works,
playwrights a chance to see their work performed and our audience a
chance to participate with us in developing new plays. We are
especially proud of our programs for youth. The Dorfman Foundation
Youth Theatre/JETYES has been specifically designed for student
audiences. Through their generous support we are able to tour all
across Southeast Michigan, bringing the excitement of live theatre
into the schools.
We also have
committed to producing The Diary of Anne Frank each spring. This
show is written for a student audience, and speaks to issues of
humanity and community. It also serves a learning tool about the
past, and a bridge to the future, both in understanding, and in
appreciation for theatre. For this production, we bring schools and
youth groups to a collaborating theatre. The students, teachers and
administrators have responded very enthusiastically.
Each year
more than 15,000 patrons have been touched by the magic of our
theatre and more than 50,000 young people are turned on to the
performing arts through our touring programs! We invite you to
peruse our web site, and see what our theatre is all about!
